CAR ACCIDENT KILLS 1 AND INJURS 3

On Monday, September 27, at approximately 5:00 p.m, four teenagers, 2 girls at the age of 16 and 2 boys at the age of 17, from Moncton, New Bruwswick were rushed to the Miramichi hospital due to a car accident.

Police say the teenagers were running late while traveling to Fredericton to support their school's soccer team. The driver was said to be texting while he was driving 10km over the speed limit. The driver did not notice a transport coming his way around the turn, the transport made it by safe only because the driver swerved to his right avoiding the transport and hitting a telephone pole head on. The car was destroyed and the three passengers were severely injured. The driver on the other hand died instantly.

"I seen the car coming my way and I thought for sure that I was not coming out of this clean.", Bill Lucy, transport driver says. "Then I seen the car swerve towards the right and knew they had it bad. I stopped to help but I knew there was nothing I could do to."

The surviving teenagers are being treated in the hospital. They suffer from broken arms and legs. Police are planning to talk to the teenagers about the accident to find out more about the situation.

ACCUSED SENIORS SCAMMER TARGET OF TV SHOW

In early December, Toronto police have suspected Richard Earl Rupert stealing money from the elderly. Toronto police issued the Canada-wide warrant for Richard last January.

I felt this article was effective because this kind of thing can happen to anyone and because Richard is "polite, well-mannered, and well-spoken" nobody would ever expect him to be a thief. I thought the whole article was interesting because I was shocked when I read about it. It amazes me that one man could scam so many people into giving him money while saying the same thing to every person.

The ending of the article was appropriate because it informs the readers that Richard will be airing on America's Most Wanted across Canada and the United States.


B.C. RAVE RAPE SUSPECT ARRESTED

RCMP in Maple Ridge, B.C. recently arrested an 18-year-old man for being involved with a gang rape of a drugged 16-year-old girl on Septembe 10, 2010. Police say the man was arrested and released but are hoping that prosecuters will approve a sexual assault charge.

I believe this article is effective because all parents and teenagers would show interest in an article such as this. As a teenager I feel disgusted that such a thing could ever happen to an innocent girl. I often go to parties and this makes me realize that anything can happen and i should be more cautious as to where i set my drinks and personal things. The boys involved should feel ashamed and no matter how old they are, they should all recieve charges. To rape a 16-year-old DRUGGED girl is bad enough, let alone put naked pictures of her on the internet, which are now being seen by men all over the world. If these boys do not recieve any charges, they will be dangerous to the community and girls will always be feeling unsafe.

I thought the article was very informative and I think that all parents and teenagers should be introduced to this story. Having such a thing happen would be a nightmare to any parent and teenagers will learn to be more safe while out with their 'friends'.


FACEBOOK RESOLVES DISRUPTION ISSUE

For several hours on, Thursday, September 23, 2010, a technical glitch blocked or slowed access to Facebook. This blocked the constant flow of updates from 500 million Facebook users.

To Facebook this has been "the worst outage we've had in over four years". This outage was said to had come from a hack spread through twitter. The attack did not shut Twitter down but it spread "tweets" of blocked-out texts to people's Twitter accounts. It was said that by evening the site was running smoothly.

The article had stated that Jennifer Sokolowsky, a freelance writer and editor in Seattle, was in the middle of contacting some Facebook friends about a possible job when the site slowed to a frustrating crawl.

“I realized I don't have any other way to contact them,” she said “If it's not working properly, that's when you realize how tapped in you are to it.”

When Jennifer says this, it makes me realize how much people rely on facebook and how frustrated people will get if their facebook is not running smoothly. Last night, I had experience with the slowness of Facebook, when I clicked on links nothing would load. I also became angry because I relied on the website so much.

I enjoyed reading the article because I had experience with what they were saying and I understood how people would be feeling. It also informed me about the movie "The Social Network" which will be realeased October 1st.

Application for Web and Layout Designer

Dear Mr.Carter:

I am also interested in applying for the position of the web and layout designer for the online school newspaper The Talon which was posted on Carterspace September 20, 2010.

By choosing me for the web and layout designer I would try my hardest to bring a new feel to the Blackville Talon. My ideas would be eye catching and I would make the layout simple so children and parents could both easily use it. I would be commited to my job and everything would be done on time. I work well with other students and I know that I would get along easily with the rest of the Talon staff. I would be able to co operate and would always be listening to new ideas.

I like the idea of changing the Blackville Talon to something fresh. Changes can be good and bad, but by choosing me as web and layout designer, I can garauntee you that the design of the website would be a huge improvement.

Dear Mr. Carter:

I am interested in applying for the position of yearbook editor for the 2010-2011 Blackville School yearbook which was advertised on Carterspace September 20, 2010.

I believe I would be a good choice for this job because I am a commited person and very dependable; I say this beacuse since having a job I have learned that being on time and working excessively is a key role to make anything sucessful. I would easily be able to use these traits if I was selected for yearbook editor. Aside from my job, I have a lot of time on my hands so I would be able to occupy myself with the yearbook whenever there is work needed to be done. I always have my ears open, so ideas from the rest of the yearbook staff and Blackville School students and teachers would be in mind.

I am not involved in any other school activities so nothing would come between me and the work required for the yearbook. I think being involved with such an important asset to the staff and students of Blackville School would be a good experience for me and also a memorable experience. Because it is my grade 12 year, being involved in something as big as the yearbook would make me feel excited, meaning no time would be wasted.

In conclusion, I think I would make you very proud if you selected me as yearbook editor. Being a part of your staff would be an honor and I'm anxious to hear back from you.

First Newspapers

The newspapers in today's society have changed dramatically since 1752. A dramatic change that I took notice while reading the articles, was the size of America's and Canada's first paper to the size of the paper today. America's first paper had only four pages, three with written material and one blank page for other people to write their news. I find this interesting because not only did this mean that they were short in paper but they were also short in copies of the paper. People would pass on the newspaper to one another and they could read news that others wrote on the blank page. On the other hand, Canada's first newspaper had only two pages filled with news from all across the world. In today's society the newspaper has multiple pages and sections, with no real number of pages to work with.

I do not agree with the government having such control over the provided news that newspapers give us, whether they are being critical to the goverment or not. I believe this because news is released about everyone else is society and because goverment is such a huge deal in the world today, it only makes sense that there is something to be written about them too. Writers have only good intentions and are only providing the audience with true facts so they will be aware of what is going on around them.

I was shocked when I read that the first newspaper was written in Halifax, I would have never expected that such an important item, that is now issued all over the world would have came from such a small city that is fairly close to us. If i had of guessed where Canada's first newspaper came from, I would have guessed a larger city such as Toronto or Ottawa. To me it seems like these bigger cities have more of an impact on the world than a small city like Halifax.

In conclusion I think that newspapers have set a great example on the world today. It influences people to read and write, and because of the newspaper people are able to read about what is new in the world and in their own community. It's weird to think that a two to four paged newspaper has grown so much and has become a daily activity to read the paper in many people's lives.
